Historical photographic funds has become a essential source of knowledge for study and research of our recent history. From the Historical Photo Archive, and in collaboration with SCI -Central Computing Service-, Málaga University works to arrange photographic funds and collections of the UMA. The website of the photographic archive was opened to the public last March, in the idea that the funds go spreading as are organizing, digitizing and including within the database.

The essential feature of this archive is that arises as a source of historical knowledge and in this sense the use of the photographs is free, with no limitation other than to state the image provenance date: reference code, title, producer and archive which they are guarded.

The process of arranging funds is done according to the principles of archival: keep photographs of the same producer together and respect the original order in which they occur. The description of the photographs (funds and collections) is linked to individuals, families and institutions (authority records) involved in the production or that are the subject of photographs, and is completed with places and subjects referring to photographs (places thesaurus and subjects thesaurus). All these elements act as access points. It also provides information of the institution that guards the photographs (archival institutions), so that who looks a picture, know where to go for a different derivative of which is offered through the database.
